Where there’s a Will there’s a way
Making it fair for your family
For years Sandi looked after her mother who had terminal cancer. It was a hard decision emotionally but also financially as she had to give up her job and sell her flat to manage the new situation. However, it was more important to her to become a full time carer for her mother for nearly three years before she died. Her mother was so happy with her daughter’s support but did not want to talk about death or what would happen when she died so nothing was discussed. Sandi sadly did not get on with her only sibling, a brother, who was preoccupied with his own life and did not help out . The brother accused his sister of sponging off her mother, not working and getting free accommodation.
When the mother died it was discovered that she had no will. Her only real asset was the family house. Since his mother’s death Sandi’s brother has been very very difficult and making any decisions on selling the house or dividing her belongings has been really challenging.
